FAQ

Have a question?

  • What are your opening hours?
We are open Monday to Sunday between 8 am to 5 pm.
  • How can I book a course or a dive?
Either send us an email on CozumelDiveSchool@gmail.com or find the activity on our website and click "Inquire Now".
  • Do you only take payments via Paypal?
If you have a bank account in Mexico, Canada or Poland, we can also accept payments to our accounts in these countries. If you want to make a bank transfer from a different country to any of the above, you will need to cover any international transfer fees. Please note that sometimes it might be difficult to establish the amount of these fees. For deposits we prefer PayPal. Bank transfers from Mexico or Poland are accepted if they are sent with a minimum of 5 business days advance. For Canadian INTERAC transfers we allow 2 business days. Any deposit in cash must be paid a minimum of 2 days before the activity.
  • Is the PayPal 5% fee added automatically?
PayPal does not automatically increase the amount you’re paying by 5%. You will have to add it before you send the transaction. For example, if the deposit is USD 50, the amount to be sent is USD 52.50 (USD 50 + 5%).
  • Are you closed on Christmas, New Years, Easter and so on?
We are open 364 days per year. The only day we are closed is Jan 1st.
  • Is there parking at your school?
Free street parking is available in front of our school building and on the streets around the block. The parking space might be limited on business days as we have a tax office close by.
  • Do you offer discounts for your students to do fun dives?
We do not offer discounts on fun dives to students of our recreational courses. If you’ve completed or are on a professional course with us (Divemaster, Instructor, Staff Instructor), you may benefit from discounted rates for boat and shore diving. Our boat diving gets cheaper if you book dive trips in a package. Some of our courses might be offered in combo options at reduced prices (e.g. OWD + AOWD, EFR + Rescue Diver, Deep + Wreck).
  • Are taxes included in the price?
Yes, all taxes and fees are included in our prices.
  • What courses do you offer?
We offer recreational courses from the beginner level of Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver, to Advanced & Rescue Diver, to various Specialties. We offer Discover Scuba Diving experience to non-divers, as well as ReActivate & Refresher courses to divers who have not been diving for some time. We also teach professional courses of Divemaster, Instructor and Staff Instructor. You can also get your Emergency First Responder certificate with us and sign up for our Tec Diving courses.
  • How long in advance should I book my course?
Our busiest season starts in November and stretches towards Easter. If you want to come diving with us then, we would recommend confirming your booking at least 3-4 weeks in advance. From April till October, 1-2 weeks advance booking should be enough. Having said that, we might have last minute openings in the high season and we might get fully booked for the whole month in the low season. We do not take any bookings less than 24 hours before the activity.
  • Can I do the course in another language?
We teach and guide primarily in English. Courses in other languages (Spanish, German, French, Swedish, Polish, Dutch, Portuguese) are subject to instructors/guides availability and might involve an extra fee.
  • What is the max number of people per course?
We observe PADI ratios in terms of student limits and age restrictions for all our courses. Our students per instructor limit on Open Water Diver courses is 4:1. If there are more students in the group (5-8), we add a certified assistant/another instructor or we split the group in two. For Advanced classes we might increase the ratio of students to instructors to 6:1, depending on students experience and type of dives. Our Discover Scuba Diving experience ratio is max 3 participants to 1 instructor, with certified assistants added whenever there are more participants (max. 4 adult participants per group with one instructor).
  • Can I make my course private?
Yes, if you are a group of 2 or more we can make your course private for an extra cost of USD 20/day per person. If you would like 1:1 training we can also offer that for an extra cost of USD 35/day.
  • Do you include transportation from my hotel?
We do not provide pick ups and drop offs at hotels. Passenger transport on Cozumel is monopolized by TAXI drivers. We can provide transportation from our school to the marina/shore dive site and back to our school. If you’ve been diving with us and we have your gear set already assembled, we can meet you at Tiki Beach/Sand Dollar Sports Bar or at the marina at an agreed time.
  • Does the course include wetsuits or do I have to rent it separately?
All our courses include standard scuba gear rental, wetsuits being no exception. We have 3 mm shorties for warmer months (April/May - November/December) and 3 mm and 5 mm full suits for colder weather (usually December - April).
  • I want to book a course for my children/partner/friends. Can I join them on their dives?
If you are a certified diver with a recent history of diving, you may join your relatives during their boat trip day at a standard fun dive trip cost. You may also join them on their shore dives and complete 1 or 2 dives with them. On any of these occasions you will be following their course flow and will have to wait for them to complete all the required skills. Any of the above must be booked in advance. Additional cost may apply if you prefer to have a private guide on any of such shore/boat dives.
  • I want to do some dives but don't know if I will like it. Can I book a try dive and then decide spontaneously if I want to do more?
‘Discover Scuba Diving’ is a great way to start your scuba diving adventure and see if you like breathing underwater. We offer a discount of USD 40 on the Open Water Diver course price if you sign up for it shortly (max. 10 days) after your successful DSD experience. In such a case, we will do our best to add you to the first available course after your DSD experience. As our schedule gets very busy, we would prefer to know in advance if you are considering signing up for an Open water Diver course. Make sure you’ve read and understood the prerequisites and requirements of the Open Water Diver course.
  • I have a diving certification but haven't dove for years. Do I need to retake the Open Water course?
+10 years may mean a long break for divers at Open Water Diver or even at Advanced level with a humble dive experience. If you don’t have many logged dives, have had a long break from scuba diving and feel rather unsure about your diving skills, we would strongly recommend retaking the Open Water Diver course. If you feel like your dive skills and theory are a bit rusty but you had logged a bunch of dives in the past, you may consider our ReActivate course. It includes eLearning that should be completed before the course, a practical session in the pool and one single tank shore dive that should put you at ease with your dive skills. If you are a diver with little experience and with a relatively short break from diving, but still remember most of the theory, we suggest you take our Refresher course (no eLearning, a practical refresher of the basic skills in the pool and one single tank shore dive) to fully enjoy your subsequent dives. Finally, if you are a diver with an extensive dive experience, a relatively short break from scuba and you feel rather strong about your dive skills, we will not require any Refresher/ReActivate course.
  • What kind of swimwear should I bring with me?
Anything you're comfortable in. For men: speedo, trunks or shorts are fine. Keep in mind you might have a wetsuit on top, so nothing too bulky. For women: we recommend a one piece swimsuit rather than a bikini just because they usually have knots that might get uncomfortable with a wetsuit on top.
  • What accommodation do you have?
We have 12 dorm beds, divided in 3 bedrooms: 2 bunk beds in each room. We also have 3 private studios and one apartment with 2 bedrooms.
  • What are the dorms like?
Our Dive House has a capacity of 12 people. We have 3 rooms, with 2 bunk beds in each. Each room has a private bathroom, AC unit, lockers, racks for clothes. Bring your padlock for the locker. Common areas include a fully-equipped kitchen (3 fridges, toaster, 6 burner stove with oven, blender, drip coffee maker, microwave) and a spacious living room. Our Dive House is located on the main floor of our school, with a sliding door facing our training pool.
  • Is accommodation included in my course?
Free dorm accommodations included in our Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue, Divemaster and Instructor courses. Accommodation is subject to availability, and offered at ‘first come, first served’ basis.
  • Are meals included?
We do not offer any meals at our accommodations. If you are staying with us, there are many affordable restaurants in the area. There are also 2 big supermarkets within 5 minutes walk from the Dive House. The Dive House has a full size kitchen, all our studios have a kitchenette. You will get a meal on any regular boat trip included in the course or fun dive package. On a day trip it will be a lunch consisting of wheat buns and tortillas, guacamole, pico de gallo, ham & cheese, fruit and cookies (vegetarian options). On twilight/night boat trips they will serve roasted chicken, tortillas, rice, marinated onion and tomato salsa. You will be able to refill your bottle with water or Gatorade on any regular boat ride.
  • Do I get a discount if I don't use your accommodations?
Free accommodation we offer with some of our courses is subject to availability and it is offered on ‘first come, first served’ basis. As it is ‘free’, we do not decrease the price of any recreational courses if the accommodation is not available or if you decide not to use it.
  • How much is a private studio & is it included in the course?
We have 3 private studios our divers can rent for USD 50/night. They are located on-site with our school and training pool, on the 2nd and 3rd floor. All studios are equipped with a queen-size bed, AC unit, safe, bed stands, clothes rack, private bathroom and a kitchenette. One of the studios has two queen size beds. Free accommodation offered with OWD, AOWD, Rescue Diver and professional courses is in the dorms in our Dive House. Upgrading to a private studio costs USD 50/night. We can also offer a private room in our 2-bedroom apartment with shared kitchen & bathroom for USD 40/night. In case of booking a private studio/room, we require that its full rental cost is paid in advance. The rental cost is non-refundable. All our accommodation options are subject to availability.
  • I am coming with a non-diving friend/partner. Can they stay at the Dive House as well?
If you’re taking a course with us, your non-diving friend/partner can stay with you at our Dive House for USD 10/night (beds and especially beds in the same room are subject to availability and must be requested in advance).
  • What boat do you use?
We usually use a boat named Anita. She is 12 m long, with sundeck, indoors area and marine toilet. She takes a max of 18 divers.
  • Does your boat have marine park permit?
Yes, Anita has all the permits required by the Marine Park Arrecifes de Cozumel.
  • I am vegetarian. Can I bring my own food on the boat?
If you booked a fun dive boat trip, a boat trip package or a course including diving off the boat, you will get a meal during the surface interval. On a morning boat trip it will be a lunch consisting of wheat buns and tortillas, guacamole, pico de gallo, ham & cheese, fruit and cookies (vegetarian options). On twilight/night boat trips they will serve roasted chicken, tortillas, rice, marinated onion and tomato salsa. You will be able to refill your bottle with water or Gatorade on any regular boat ride. You can always bring your own food on the boat if you are vegetarian/vegan, have any dietary restrictions or allergies or simply prefer to bring your favorite predive snacks.
